Indonesia shifts G20 focus to energy security

The Office of Coordinating Economic Minister has vowed to focus on energy security in the first round of the Group of 20 sherpa track working groups. Indonesia’s G20 presidency has been focused on three pillars: strengthen global health architecture, digital transformation, and energy transition.

Deputy Coordinating Economic Minister and G20 co-sherpa Edi Prio Pambudi explained that due to the war in Ukraine, some G20 members were considering reallocating their energy transition budget to energy subsidies. Indonesia as G20 president was facing a severe challenge in balancing the need of energy transition and security. One of the main challenges also the economic sanctions the United States and its’ allies imposed on Russian Federation, that hampered the discussion on energy transition.
