Encouraging Tourism Destinations Collaborating with Waste Management Communities

The Director General of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Sigit Reliantoro, highlighted waste management in tourist destinations at the G20 forum in Yogyakarta on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. He explained that the agreement between the manager of tourist destinations and the waste management community can regulate the circulation of waste in the area. That way, waste is no longer a source of problems, but can be a blessing or bring in income for the surrounding community.

Sigit said that in the G20 forum, delegates from a number of countries conveyed how they are trying to reduce waste from the producer level or upstream to downstream. Representatives from Germany stated that the government requires every company that makes certain products to include a guide if the item is damaged and needs repair.
