Economic challenges for France in Indonesia

In 2021, the Directorate General of the Treasury carried out a strategic review of the economic challenges for France in Indonesia. This work of reflection and analysis was carried out with French companies established on the spot and economists specialized in the area.

As a country-archipelago, Indonesia was already facing three major challenges before the health crisis: (i) reducing its infrastructure deficit, (ii) strengthening human capital (health, education) and (iii) recovering the competitiveness of its manufacturing industry. Jakarta has so far remained relatively withdrawn from multilateral discussions, and will have to take Chinese-American tensions into account.
