The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is one of the financial mechanisms of the Paris Agreement and covers 5 international conventions: the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and the Minamata Convention on Mercury.
The 8th replenishment of the resources of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) ended on April 8, 2022 with an agreement from all contributors for a total amount of $5.25 billion in resources mobilized for the four next few years. As historic contributor for more than 30 years, France has played its full part in this effort by the international community, providing a record contribution of 360 million dollars, up nearly 40% in euros compared to its contribution at the previous reconstitution.
