Indonesia Hosts UN Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction

“The meeting will be held for change of experience, best practices, and as well as capacity building in the context of how the state handles and anticipates disasters, which of course do not happen only once,” Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said May 24.

The GPDRR Summit in Bali is the 7th event organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. Indonesia is the first Asian country to host the GPDRR Summit. The event’s participants are 24 percent NGOs, 20 percent government, 11 percent academics, and 7 percent business. Among those attending the meeting are UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid, and the UNDRR Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction Mami Mizutori.
